Actually, that's a fair comparison. The shape and strings are very much the same. It's simply encased in hollowed wood with the strings facing the floor and ceiling. Instead of strumming, little hammers strike at each string to play a particular note when you hit a key.

Come to think of it, I wouldn't at all turn down lessons in harpsichord. I would imagine they're much easier to come by than a piano.
